He added: "In the singles the game score for the second set doesn't reflect how difficult the game was. It was very intense and I managed to pick the right shots at the right time.
"My serve service game was definitely my weapon. I got quite a few aces and with a strong first serve I was able to dominate the majority of points.
"My opponent was very tricky and St Peter's whole squad had a lot of quality so this was one of our best performances to date."
Rotorua-Lynmore's fifth straight win put them top the table ahead of Rotorua-Lynmore second team in second and Mount Maunganui Otumoetai in third going into the mid-season break.
Tamai said he was "delighted" with the performance of his squad so far - with his side in the driving seat to retain the title for the third year in a row. But he admitted to being wary of Mount Maunganui who they face in the first game of the second round.
"I'm very proud. Our target was to finish on top at this stage and we've done it with a very strong performance," he said.
"The team have backed each other up very well and we have the right mix of experience and youth here.
"It's going to be a tough game against the Mount - so we can't slack off over the break. Now is not the time to be complacent."
Meanwhile Rotorua women will keep their winning streak intact and remain at the top of the table after Mount Maunganui defaulted this weekend's game.
This gives them five straight wins going into their last fixture against Tauranga Lawn on December 17 before the mid-season break.
