Rumour had it Rotorua's Sam Hunt was walking off the first tee and the biggest name in golf - Tiger Woods - called out to join him for a round.
That wasn't quite what happened. The truth is the former Rotorua Boys' High School star ended up playing a round of golf with Woods but it was after sharing abdominal exercises and bad jokes in a Las Vegas gym.
Woods is a frequent visitor to a Keith Cleven's gymnasium where Hunt, who is attending the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, trains regularly.
Cleven is Woods' fitness trainer and many of the PGA Tour's professionals also tone their bodies in his Las Vegas facilities.
Woods and Hunt had met in the gym on a few previous occasions and after a recent strenuous workout in the special "ab room", Hunt popped the question to a recovering Woods.
"He'd [Tiger] work out really hard for about five minutes and then rest in between. He'd talk and tell his bad jokes," Hunt remembered.
"I just asked him if he was playing while he was there and he said 'tomorrow'. I told him I'd be out there as well and he said we'd have a game then."
And so unfolded the tale of the Rotorua 21-year-old playing a round with the world's most recognisable sportsman on a pristine and private TPC Summerlin's course in Las Vegas.
Woods and Hunt played from the 6278m (6866yard) championship tees and turned on some sparkling golf with the 2005 British Open and Masters champion beating the former New Zealand Strokeplay champion by just one shot.
"He shot five under and I was four. I had him after nine holes but he birdied the last," joked Hunt, who fired eight birdies during an "amazing" experience with the 13-time major winner.
"It was weird because he's such a fun guy. I was nervous over the first shot but after that he started poking fun at me and I was comfortable," said Hunt.
"We were just talking back to each other when we were hitting shots and having fun ... It wasn't intimidating at all but after the round I was just thinking 'what happened here, I just played a round with Tiger Woods - the most famous golfer ever'." Woods even chucked in a well-known Down Under phrase, affectionately dubbing Hunt one of them Kiwi sheep ...
There was also some serious golfing advice and constructive criticism for Hunt.
Woods told Hunt he needed to hit different shots - high, low, hooking and cutting - when he was playing on the course but probably the best tip is one Hunt hopes to use himself one day.
"He told me the secret to holing putts to win majors - but I'm not allowed to tell anyone."
