Rotorua businessman Ray Cook is back on his bike for a good cause.
The owner of the Royal Lakeside Novotel and Ibis Hotel is taking part in the Accor Cycling To Cure Kids fundraising ride that starts in Wellington on Saturday and finishes 800km later in Auckland on Friday October 22.
Mr Cook and the 22 other cyclists, including 18 senior Accor executives, have raised $200,000 sponsorship for the cause.
The aim of the ride is to raise funds for Cure Kids, the face of the Child Health Research Foundation in New Zealand.
For more than 30 years the foundation has raised and invested millions of dollars into medical research for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The first leg of the ride takes the riders to Palmerston North, before heading to Waiouru, National Park, Taupo, Rotorua, Hamilton and finally Auckland.
They reach Taupo on Tuesday October 19 and Rotorua on Wednesday October 20.
Before the riders head off on Thursday October 21, they will be at a charity breakfast at the Royal Lakeside Novotel.
The breakfast starts at 7am and includes guest speakers Commonwealth Games gold medallist Mark Rendell and New Zealand Olympic cyclist Graeme Miller.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from the Royal Lakeside Novotel.
In May last year, Mr Cook raised $12,750 for the Bay of Plenty Burns Support Group in Rotorua after cycling from Melbourne to Sydney in 12 days.
The Australian fundraiser also involved senior managers from the Accor hotel chain.
