A local i-Site worker will be shaving his head for charity on show at the Rotorua Night Market tonight.

Senior travel consultant Zhev Tio Beattie said he had been quite lucky in that he and his family had not been directly affected by cancer.

However, a lot of family friends and work friends had been affected, he said.

"Personally for me it's just a way to give back to the less fortunate."

He said he decided to do the shave at the Night Market as there was a lot of energy there, and there would be a great crowd.

The i-Site also had a stall at the market so it was convenient, he said.

"I think it's great for the awareness of it [cancer]. It does affect a lot of people in their own way."

As of last night, Mr Beattie had raised $1726.45 for the Cancer Society.

He said he wanted to give "a big thank you" to everyone who had supported him with donations as well as Wilson Bros who would be doing the shave.

Tomorrow is also Daffodil Day, the annual fundraiser for the Cancer Society. People can donate to the street appeal or online at, text HOPE to 469 to donate $3, or visit any ANZ branch.
