WEATHER WATCH: Marine areas are expected to be hit.

WEATHER WATCH: Marine areas are expected to be hit.

Tropical Cyclone Winston continues to strengthen as it tracks towards New Zealand, and WeatherWatch predicts it may bring dangerous conditions to some beaches in the North Island.

While Winston is tracking south towards New Zealand, it is unlikely it will make a direct hit as it will probably weaken.

It is more likely to bring dangerous beach and marine conditions to some areas of the North Island.

Because Winston is still deepening, it is already churning up the sea, WeatherWatch said.

Meanwhile another cyclone tracking towards New Zealand, Tropical Cyclone Tatiana, continues to strengthen and it is possible it will become a Category 2 cyclone, higher than Australian forecasters were expecting.

Cyclone Tatiana, the smaller of the two cyclones, is expected to last until today.

However, it will drift towards the upper North Island.

Because of the two cyclones and a new low in the southern Tasman Sea next week, WeatherWatch predicts very humid weather and heavy rain, and possible thunderstorms.NZME
