A 56-year-old woman suffered extensive facial injuries after she was assaulted in her Whakatane home.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew a Waikato Hospital Intensive Care Unit team to retrieve the woman in the early hours of this morning.
She was transported to Waikato Hospital for specialist treatment and was accompanied
