In celebration of Easter, people are invited to take in special services and a procession of witness on Good Friday.

Rotorua Combined Churches are hosting a celebration of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at the City Focus on Good Friday starting at 10am and, later in the day, people are involved to join in the Ngongotaha combined churches Procession of Witness.

A sun-rise service will be held at Sulphur Point at 6.30am on Easter Sunday where the "multitudes will be fed on smoked fish and bread".

Harvest Church pastor Dave Moore said the public outdoor service would be held wet or fine starting at 10am.

Easter was about Jesus' sacrifice to save the world and Christians throughout the world wanted to share the message of hope, Mr Moore said. "It was a high price to pay ... this is what Christianity is about."

People are then invited to join in the procession through the streets of Ngongotaha - an annual event organised by St Barnabas Church, Trinity Presbyterian and Oasis Church.

Assemble at the Scout/Guide Hall on the corner of Western and Ngongotaha Rds at 1.15pm tomorrow. It will be held wet or fine.
