A search is underway for a woman missing in the Whirinaki Forest Park, south-east of Murupara.

The missing woman is a 47 and from Murupara. She was a group of about 10 people who were walking and running on a track in the forest near Minginui.

She became separated from the group and when she did not arrive back at the car park, emergency services were called.

Police were called about 8.30pm and a search and rescue team was sent into the area, who searched until about 4.30am.

The search was started up again this morning with a further four teams, including police staff, search and rescue volunteers, a mountain bike team and friends of the missing woman.
