While nobody was seriously injured in the crashes, the road is currently blocked between State Highway 1 and Aratiatia Rd while the scenes are cleared.

Motorists travelling in the area are advised to take the Taupo arterial route, Broadlands Rd and Aratiatia Rd.

Police also ask motorists in a written statement to drive to the conditions.

Weather is poor and people should adjust their speed accordingly and increase their following distances.

Rotorua police Senior Sergeant Mike Membery said there had been a number of crashes on Aratiatia Rd and around the Bay of Plenty region within a short time period.

"People need to take a little bit more time and adjust their speed to the road conditions. The roads are slippery and wet and most the crashes are weather related."

He said all the crashes had been minor.
