One dead after suspected homicide in Whangarei

One man is dead and another is in custody following a suspected homicide just north of Whangarei this evening.

At about 6.30pm police deployed the Armed Offenders Squad and had cordoned off either end of Church Road, Ngararatunua.

A short time later they had arrested a man without further incident and secured an address on Church Rd where the other man's body was found.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said no charges had been laid yet in relation to the incident. She could not comment on cause of death.

A neighbour said they had not seen or heard anything unusual, other than the presence of four police cars on the road.
