Local touch exponents in Kaitaia are being spoiled for choice this year with two modules taking place on consecutive nights.
The first one of the week is running on the Kaitaia College top fields in Kaitaia on Thursday evenings from 5.30pm, the other at Te Rarawa RFC in Ahipara on Friday nights.
However, some local enthusiasts of the popular summer game have been forced to consider resources in facing two modules in a town where one would have been more sustainable. The two events risked a counter-productive effect of diluting the competition and player numbers by forcing those with only one weeknight or the financial resources available to make a choice between one or t'other. Should the organisers have instead pooled their collaborative resources?
The cost for a team to enter either module, with Thursdays offering trophies and Fridays cash for the top prizes, was over $200 a team. Not super cheap when compared with the $60 per team pricetag to take part in the NAKFA 7-aside summer football. But for those for whom there is no such thing as too much touch, the opportunity to play on two consecutive evenings each and every week will be considered a welcome one.
Other touch modules operating throughout the Far North region - i.e. from the Cape Reinga south to Kawakawa - and wishing to promote their tournaments in the Age were welcome to do so. See contact details elsewhere.
