Sunday saw the last of representative fixtures prior to the New Zealand event in February. It was also the last opportunity for the selectors of Northland and Far North to take a look at players and form their teams.
Both centres used the event to switch players around in all sides and give themselves the opportunity to find the best combinations. In the men's division open grade, the results were a close affair, with only two points between first and third. Winners on the day were Far North with 13 points, second were Northland with 12 points, and North Harbour were in third place with 11 points.
In the reserve grade, the results were a little more clear cut, with Northland in first place with 15 points, North Harbour second with 13 points, and Far North in third place with eight points. Overall in the men's division, Northland finished with 27 points, North Harbour 24 points and Far North 21 points.
In the women's open division, first place went to Northland with 19 points, second place to North Harbour with 17 points, and third to Far North with six points.
In the Reserve division, North Harbour were first with 13 points, Far North second with 11 points, and Northland third with six points. Overall in the women's section, North Harbour finished with 30 points, Northland 25 points and Far North 17 points.
Thanks go to the Whangarei and Onerahi clubs for their assistance in running these events, the use of their facilities, catering, umpires and markers.
The next event on the calendar is the Interclub Sevens competition, to be held on January 12-13. Entries close on January 3 and clubs are reminded to include entry fee and names of players with their entries. As the centre office will be closed over Christmas, you may forward your entries by email to the centre match committee and you will receive an acknowledgment. Two divisions will be available and you may nominate which division you wish to enter.
Entries for the junior 1-5 Year Any Combination Interclub Sixes will close on January 17.
Clubs are reminded that entries for all Champion of Champion competitions close on January 15. You do not have to name your players, just enter your club. Entry forms have been distributed to all club secretaries.
To all of you attending the national tournament in Taranaki, may the rub of the green go your way. I look forward to receiving results. As president of the centre, may I extend to all bowlers my best wishes for a happy festive season.
Keep safe and I look forward to keeping in touch with you all again in 2013.
