Northland has been enjoying a fabulous summer and chances are it's going to get even better.
The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) has released its Climate Outlook for January-March 2018 and says there's a 70 per cent chance that temperatures across the region will be higher than normal during the three months, but there is also an even chance of higher than normal rainfall.
New Zealand is expecting above average temperatures and high rainfall levels to arrive with an oncoming weak La Nina weather pattern, NIWA principal scientist Chris Brandolino said.
La Nina weather patterns in NZ often mean increased humidity and showers, along with warmer than normal temperatures, he said.
The NIWA climate outlook indicates a continued warm summer season.
