There were some big scores over the weekend in the premier women's hockey competition as the teams came back from a two-week break to sharpen their game plans before playoffs.
With quarter-final positions already secured, teams used the second to last round robin game to try and hone their tactics, with the top three teams all securing wins.
Second placed Whangarei Girls' High School were looking to come out strong against Mangapai on Saturday as they build not only for playoffs, but for the Federation Cup school tournament, and a 7-0 win did well to boost their confidence.
Girls' High coach Alan Moscrip said "we were wanting to kick off well with five weeks to go [until tournament].
"We've struggled to score goals against Mangapai as they've got a very handy keeper ... but I think we showed a bit more aggression in the circle which was pleasing," Moscrip said.
