Whangarei residents can get a free demonstration on how to get the best out of composting their household waste.

CBEC EcoSolutions has trained three community mentors who will each train people in their own communities of Hikurangi, Onerahi and Tikipunga/Glenbervie to compost at home.

EcoSolutions aims to slash the staggering 25 per cent of all waste to landfill that is organic, by encouraging household composting.

EcoSolutions has partnered with the Whangarei District Council to implement a comprehensive, large-scale household composting programme across the Whangarei district.

The Compost Connection programme will mentor a total of 660 people across the district over the next three years.

"We aim to change behaviour and break down the barriers to composting," said Compost Connection project manager Ruth Marsh.

Community composting workshops will provide participants with knowledge and support to start the composting system of their choice.

There is no charge to attend a workshop and learn to produce less waste. For more details contact Ms Marsh on (09) 438 8710.
