A whopping 2700 people have made submissions about a Far North District Council plan setting out how it will spend ratepayer money for the next 10 years.
About 2000 submissions were from people calling on the council to build an indoor, heated swimming pool at Te Hiku Sports Hub in Kaitaia.
The other 700 submissions tackled a range of topics outlined in the Proposed Long Term Plan 2015-25, in particular the council's proposals for upgrading sewerage and water schemes.
Among the most contentious are a costly, but urgently needed, upgrade to Kerikeri's failing and over-stretched sewage system, and finding new water sources in South Hokianga, where strict water restrictions are an almost annual event.
Mayor John Carter said he was pleased so many residents, ratepayers and community groups had seized their chance to have a say about the council's direction over the next 10 years. He also thanked those who attended 10 community meetings and hui around the district.
