It's not really a horse float, more a novel horse transportation device, but a motorist's effort to get some extra horsepower into his truck has sparked a search by Far North police.
A blue truck with a horse tied to the flat deck standing up has been spotted several times on Far North roads this holiday period, including at up to 100km/h on state highways, Houhora constable Tracee Knowler said.
The practice has been labelled potentially dangerous.
Ms Knowler posted a photo of the truck and horse on the Houhora Police's Facebook page saying she didn't personally see the truck and the photo was sent in to her from over the weekend, and several different people reportedly saw it.
"But enquiries will be made as to exactly what was going on and then a decision made as to a course of action (including possible charges), " she said.
And while she has obscured the vehicles registration plate form the photograph, Ms Knowler said she has those details and will be trying to track down the owner.
Ms Knowler said while it appeared the horse was well trained, it was a shame the owner was not as equally well trained.
Within minutes of the post going up witty Facebook followers questioned how safe to the horse and other road users the practice was while others wondered if the owner could train their horse to do the same.
