A man was knocked off his mobility scooter on a Whangarei street and lay on the road until St John ambulance staff made it to the scene.
The man was crossing Nixon St when he collided with a car going through the busy intersection about 3.30pm yesterday.
He flew through the air a few metres and ended up on the road, without any serious injuries.
The driver of the car swerved and hit a traffic light, damaging her car.
Members of the public were quick to comfort the man and the elderly woman driver until emergency services arrived.
Initially, the traffic lights continued to work and traffic flowed.
However, a short time later they failed and police officers took over directing traffic through the intersection until the fault was fixed.
The man knocked off the scooter was taken to Whangarei Hospital and the car was towed away.
