The TV series The GC - which follows the lives of expat Maori on Queensland's Gold Coast - has attracted controversy around the country, but until now it hadn't led to any arrests.
That changed on Friday night after an appearance by GC stars at Kerikeri bar Rocksalt.
Senior Sergeant Peter Robinson, of Kerikeri police, said the event itself drew a large number of people but was well-managed and incident-free.
The trouble, however, started afterwards as patrons were going home. A number of fights started on the footpath, requiring police intervention and leading to the arrest of three men on fighting and disorder charges.
Mr Robinson said inquiries were continuing into "an element which may have been stirring things up".
