Kerikeri High rules seas
Kerikeri High School has won the 2012 Secondary School Team Sailing Nationals held at Algies Bay in Auckland. The nationals wrapped up on Friday after five days of racing, dominated by fine weather and light winds. Kerikeri High School won the open division while second place went to Lindisfarne College, which beat Mahurangi in their quarter-final and Christchurch Boys in their semifinal. St Kentigern outsailed Christchurch Boys for third place.
Fonterra seeks unity
Fonterra will hold a special meeting with a satellite link over eight venues on June 25 in a bid to end division over plans for Trading Among Farmers. Chairman Sir Henry van der Heyden said that while most shareholders were urging directors to get on with Trading Among Farmers, a small group of shareholders who had concerns were vocal in the media, damaging Fonterra's reputation overseas. "We have to put a stop to this and use the special meeting to unify the shareholder base so that we can get on with implementing the new business strategy," he said.
Assault case transferred
A high-profile woman facing charges of assaulting a child has had her trial transferred to Gisborne. The woman, aged 34, has been charged with assaulting a child and assault with intent to injure and the case was called in the Whangarei District Court yesterday. The matter has been adjourned to the Gisborne District Court on May 15 for callover. Suppression orders surround the case.
