Talk about mixing work with pleasure ... for Hawke's Bay golfer Henry Heather it's a case of having to.
Heather, a 2.5 handicapper, and his Hawke's Bay clubmate Laurie Lambert, who plays off a 10, are the Hibernian RSA 1 team in the 256-player Clubs New Zealand National Men's Pairs tournament which began at their club yesterday. After scoring 35 stableford points, two less than Lambert, Heather, left the course at 1.30pm and worked until 8pm last night.
Today, the pair have a 7am tee off which will allow Heather to work most of the afternoon and into the early hours of this evening.
"We've got a few projects on which are keeping us busy so it's a case of fitting my golf around work," Heather, who runs a Flaxmere-based four-person engineering business, explained.
"There's a first time for everything and I didn't want to miss this tournament," he said.
