Havelock 2 Rovers 0
After Promotem Napier City Rovers' magical run of late, one can be forgiven for thinking they should have been firm favourites on Saturday.
But someone forgot to tell Best United Travel Havelock North Wanderers that as the hosts beat the Blues 2-0 at Guthrie Park.
"It got a bit scrappy but everyone stayed on the park so the officiating was good," Wanderers coach Bruce Barclay said after a goal in each half.
"It was a pretty good encounter but our hunger and determination was probably the difference against a quality team," Barclay said, adding the young learned from the old but the latter also lifted their intensity amid youthful exuberance.
Havelock North 2 (BJ Christensen pen 42nd, Quentin Hunt 67th) Rovers 0. HT: 1-0.
Marist 0 Gisborne 2
Any team who travel away every fortnight outside their comfort zone deserves a medal but when they win on the road that's something to crow about.
Hot Shots Napier Marist coach Dave Carswell will tell you that after Jennian Homes Team Gisborne returned home with a 2-0 victory at Park Island, Napier.
"It was a very even contest with both sides creating chances but our basic technique let us down so Gisborne scored off it," Carswell said.
"Half of the job is to come down every two weeks so to front up and play so good is great."

Taradale 2 Rangers 2
Anytime a team come away with a point from the premiership leaders it's something to talk about between sips at the clubrooms.
"We're very pleased to go to unbeaten Taradale with only 12 players to return with a point so I'm very proud of my boys," coach Ritchie Howard said after Western Rangers held Cape Physio Taradale to a 2-2 draw.
The visitors were down 2-0 at halftime after goalkeeper Luke Herrick called for the ball but missed a pass.
Of the second penalty goal, Howard said: "My humble opinion is you normally see them or you don't and Deano [Dean Johnston] doesn't miss those from the six-yard mark."
Both sides had goals disallowed within minutes of each other after they were tied.
"We controlled most of the possession," Howard said, adding the talk and effort was part of a relative improvement in player-coach rapport as the season got older.
