Winter may seem like it is taking a break next week with unseasonably warm weather expected across Hawke's Bay.

A front approaching the country tomorrow is set to bring a northwesterly flow to the region and with it warmer temperatures.

MetService meteorologist Tom Bell said the front will be heading towards New Zealand from the west tomorrow and Hawke's Bay will start seeing a northwesterly wind pick up.

There may also be a few scattered rainfalls tomorrow afternoon or evening but easing off on Monday.

The strengthening northwesterly flow will bring warmer temperatures with a high of 16C and low of 9C tomorrow and highs of 19-20C on Monday and Tuesday with overnight lows reaching 10C.

"It's quite warm for this time of year."

This sort of weather setup with a bit of wind and cloud was not uncommon for early August but the expected temperatures were higher than usual, he said.

This would be a bit of a contrast to the last few days which had been cooler due to a southeasterly flow.

This had been crossing Hawke's Bay for the last few days bringing with it some showers and cooler overnight temperatures including a high of 14C and lows of 1-2C today.

This was expected to continue until at least this morning but would clear by this afternoon, he said.

Another front is expected to approach the country on Tuesday but would not make it to Hawke's Bay until Wednesday, bringing patches of cloud.

There is also a severe weather warning with moderate chances of heavy rain and severe northerly gales in the Kaweka and Huiarau Ranges west and north of Hawke's Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday from the northwesterly flow caused by the front moving across the country.
