A 25-year-old Dannevirke man has been identified as the victim of a fatal Boxing Day crash.

Today police have named the motorcyclist who died in a crash near Ashhurst, Manawatu, on Sunday 26 December as Daimon Jonathan Mark Sattrup.

Mr Sattrup's motorcycle had collided with a car on Napier Road near Ashurst around 5.45pm on Monday. The two occupants of the car had received moderate injuries.

A funeral notice for the 25-year-old stated he was a "much loved and treasured son of Harvey and Rosie and their partners Shane Ritchie and Jackie Dailey".

Mr Sattrup was a loved brother and mate to Branden (Willy), and was loved by all his grandparents but special mate to Doug Edmonds, the notice read.

A service for Mr Sattrup will be held 'The Hub' in Dannevirke on January 3, followed by interment at Mangatera Lawn Cemetery.

Police's serious crash unit is investigating and the matter will be referred to the Coroner.
Police said their thoughts are with Mr Sattrup's family during this sad time.

During the holiday period four motorcyclists, including Mr Sattrup, have been killed on the country's roads.

His death brought the road toll during this period to eight. It now stands at 12, the total of the same period in 2015.

The official holiday road period began at 4pm on December 23, and runs until 6am on January 4.
