There were two winning tickets sold in Hawke's Bay for the Christmas Eve draw.

There were two winning tickets sold in Hawke's Bay for the Christmas Eve draw.

Christmas came early for two lucky locals who each won $200,000 in Lotto First Division on the night of Christmas Eve.

The winners were two of five who struck a pre-Christmas jackpot just in time for the summer season.

The winning Lotto tickets were sold at Greenmeadows New World in Napier, Unichem Stortford Lodge Pharmacy in Hastings, Kaikohe Four Square in Kaikohe, Frankton Lotto & Stationery in Hamilton, and New Brighton Lotto & Discounter in Christchurch.

It seems Powerball players are on a winning streak this month, with the jackpot being struck three times in the previous two weeks.

Last Wednesday's Powerball winner, who bought the ticket at Woodys Winners in Wellsford, became the latest multimillionare in New Zealand after collecting their prize of $5.3 million dollars.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said they were taken by suprise after being told to go into a back room when they check their ticket at a Lotto store.

"Once she told me what had happened - that I'd won $5.3 million, I just started crying and I was shaking so much I had to sit down," they said.

After telling family they said they're looking forward to compiling their Christmas wish list which currently includes a car, house and holiday.

Powerball was not struck on the night of Christmas Eve and has rolled over to Wednesday night, where the jackpot will be $5 million.
