A man wanted in connection with an assault on a woman in Napier at the weekend has been arrested.
Jason Taki-McLeod was arrested in Rotorua today. Police wanted to speak to him in relation to an incident where a woman was allegedly assaulted in Napier on Friday night and a male attempted to drown her in the sea off Marine Parade.
Detective Sergeant Jason Crowe said Taki-McLeod allegedly stole a car from Napier on Saturday and dumped it in Rotorua. He was arrested in Rotorua today in another vehicle. He ran from the car but was caught after a short chase on foot.
Taki-McLeod already has two warrants for his arrest for unrelated matters. Charges will be pending regarding the weekend incident in Napier.
