Hamilton City Council says that on Thursday water restrictions will increase with a total ban on domestic sprinklers and fountains around the city turned off to conserve water.

In spite of recent rainfall the city still remains at Water Alert Level 2.

Residents will be allowed to use hand held hoses.

Commercial properties will have outdoor water use restrictions and the council says that most of the fountains will be switched off.
