Two Hamilton schools demonstrated community spirit this week with substantial donations to the Hamilton Combined Christian Food bank.

Students from Southwell School and Waikato Diocesan School for Girls organised collections of non perishable food items - and an assortment of festive items - to boost dwindling stocks on the food bank shelves.

Downer NZ Ltd offered its support by seconding three volunteers, contracts supervisor Ed Beazley, Darryn Shadrock and Robbie Lilleyman, and vehicles to cart the donated items from the schools to the foodbank.

Hamilton and the Waikato, like other areas in the country, is seeing a growing need for food parcels from a wide range of clients - some employed some unemployed.

In the year October 2011 to October 2012the Hamiltron Combined Christian Foodbank has distributed 3455 parcels that catered for 6,821 adults and 5,343 children.
