Great Little War Game 2

Turn-based strategy is one genre of game that I've always wanted to like, but never had the patience. I've tried to enjoy them, but apart from brief flings, I've never found something I kept coming back to. Everything seemed either too complicated, took too long to play or required intimate knowledge of some obscure historic battle. I just wanted to be able to pick it up and put it down at will.
Great Little War Game 2 has got me. I'm playing it on a Galaxy Tab 3, and using a touch screen to move your units around has made it so much more enjoyable than having to scroll around with a game pad. In addition, this is not a free-to-play/pay-to-advance game: you pay a few dollars and that's it.
This is a classic turn-based strategy game, but stripped of some of the annoying elements found in other titles. Yes, I have to send engineers to go and grab oil wells to earn me money, but I don't have to keep an eye on production numbers -- the more wells I own the more money I earn, which lets me buy more troops and vehicles. Simple.
Landscape effects how far your troops can move. You earn points for grabbing a star on each level, which is often in a difficult position to get to. Points are also accrued on completion of each level. These can be used to upgrade troops or vehicles.
The graphics are very clean and easy to understand and the controls simplified. Most of the 60 levels take about five to 20 minutes to get through and some are straightforward while others are trickier, but again, the great thing is you can pick it up, play for a bit and put it down again.
