Travel: Prepare to party in the festival city

Vancouver is a powerhouse destination for festivals, with an ever-increasing schedule of extravaganzas packing out the calendar.

In late June, the International Jazz Festival sees over 300 concerts staged across the city.

From July 29 to August 4, the world's largest off-shore fireworks competition electrifies the sky with Vancouver's Celebration of Light. Drawing crowds of over a million people to the nightly pyrotechnics, this is surely one of the world's best free events.

Running until mid-September, a fabulous family attraction is Klahowya Village. The village offers an authentic encounter with First Nations culture, where you can sample traditional dance, cuisine, storytelling and wood carving. Jump on board the Spirit Catcher Train, journey deep into the forest and experience the ancient story of the Sasquatch.

The fashionable retail throng of Robson St is the nerve-centre of Vancouver's street culture. Gracing Robson St is the Listel Hotel, an absolute gem of a property, recently dubbed "Vancouver's most art-full hotel". The boutique property is a contemporary cocoon of art, elegance and comfort.

The 130 guest rooms are equipped with every conceivable mod-con. Request a Gallery or Museum Floor room, where each room has been designed as an individual art gallery. A truly stunning property.

The ground floor O'Doul's Restaurant & Bar has been a popular haunt for over 40 years. Just closed for a major revamp, great food, wine and live jazz will be rolled out from September in the all-new sustainable restaurant.
