Transtasman pride is on the line at the Bay Indoor Centre at Mount Maunganui, with teams representing Australia and New Zealand squaring off to decide the inaugural Trans-Tasman Masters Indoor Cricket series.
Play got under way at the Bay Indoor Centre in Mount Maunganui yesterday with the best over-35, 40, 45 and 50 teams in action. The five-game series in each grade will finish on Saturday, with a day off tomorrow for a combined visit to Rotorua.
During the last five years, New Zealand teams have played at the Australian Masters championship with this week's tournament in Mount Maunganui the first standalone competition between the two countries.
"We are excited to bring the inaugural Trans Tasman Masters to the Bay of Plenty, with the opportunity to showcase the region to our Australian visitors," said NZ Indoor Cricket Masters chairman Tony Watkins.
"We envisage the Thursday trip to Rotorua will be remembered for a long time on both sides of the Tasman. The Bay Indoor Centre is a world-class indoor cricket facility and we are extremely grateful to Andrew Templer and Steve Baldry for hosting the first transtasman series at their facility."
