The Tauranga City United Northern League Division 2 soccer team picked up all three points in their match against Warkworth away on Saturday courtesy of a 2-1 win.
Historically Warkworth have not been a happy hunting ground for Tauranga but two goals from the in-form Jack McNabb enabled them to maintain fifth place on the ladder, four points adrift of early leaders Mangere United and Western Springs who share top spot.
Locked 0-0 at half time, the goals did not come until late in the second half. A Tauranga corner resulted in McNabb heading in at the far post giving them the lead. Shortly after the referee took exception to a Mark Knell tackle and the Blues midfielder was shown a second yellow card, the first picked up earlier in the match, resulting in Tauranga having to finish the game with 10 players. Worse was to come when Warkworth equalised form the resulting free kick.
But McNabb on the end of a Josh Nelson cross to give Tauranga City United the win.
McNabb has now scored eight goals for the season and sits in equal second place in the Division Golden Boot competition.
