Mens Centre 2-Bowl Triples

This tournament was held at Gate Pa. From a very strong field of 26 teams, eight teams qualified for post-section play. In a hard-fought final, the Tauranga South team of Graham Skellern, skip, Ben Thurston and Grahame Heward prevailed 13-10 over the Mount Maunganui team of Steve Beel, skip, Lance Tasker and Terry Muir.

Women's Centre Pairs

The Women's Centre Pairs which were held at Matua attracted 34 teams with the Tauranga Bowling Club providing one green for section play. Thirteen teams qualified for post-section play with the final played between the Tauranga South pair of Dawn Clark with Del Hawke, and the Ohope pair of Sheryl Wellington and Kathy Dempster-Rivett. As they had throughout the tournament the Tauranga South pair played steady draw bowls winning the title 20-9.

On Sunday February 17, the Bay of Plenty Open Reserve Men and Women sides (each side comprising a singles player, a pair and a four) travelled to Hamilton to play in a Zone 2 tournament against Thames Valley, Waikato and Counties Manukau. The top two men and women teams from this tournament will represent Zone 2 against the top two teams from Zone 1 (Far North, North Auckland, North Shore and Auckland). The men's team struggled throughout the tournament winning only three and drawing one of their nine games to come third but the women lost only two games to be clear winners on the day.
