Auctions of big-ticket sponsored items - lately including an iPhone X, Honda dirt bike and VIP courtside experience - have played out simultaneously on big screens and fans' phones during quarter- and halftime breaks at Phoenix games.
Fans essentially play chicken for the chance to pay as little as possible for the prize on offer - but there can only be one winner.
In January they will bring that experience to Auckland's Spark Arena for the Breakers' home game against the Cairns Taipans.
Breakers general manager Dillon Boucher reckoned the app would lift the courtside experience to another level.
"We can't wait to see it in action."
Peter Howell, who was based in Tauranga while Brendan Howell worked out of the Kiwi-owned business' headquarters in Miami, said he was rapt to bring the app home.
"Since launching in the NBA we have had nothing but overwhelmingly positive feedback from both the Phoenix Suns and NBA fans on the technology and believe this will translate across to the Breakers."
Mr Howell says sporting arenas were becoming "advanced smartphone environments" and apps could keep people engaged.
"Whether it is quarter-time or halftime in basketball, the moment the live action stops people switch off from the atmosphere, they go and grab a hot dog or chips and look at their phones."
