Salt ice trucked in from Auckland provided the perfect opportunity for snowboarders to strut their stuff at Papamoa Tavern on Saturday.
Tavern manager Sam Taylor-Hill said the salt stopped the ice from melting too quickly, meaning there was plenty of snow left for people fresh from braving the chilly waters at yesterday's Papamoa Polar Plunge.
Although lots of Tauranga snowboarders were at Whakapapa enjoying the slopes, enough were left in town to create plenty of interest for the $1000 in cash prices for men and women snowboarders.
"It was more of a jam format, we hope to do it again next year,'' he said.
