This Sunday beach-goers will be treated to a fleet of Tornado catamarans flying past, as they race from Sulphur Point to Papamoa.
Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club is running the race, where a fleet of Tornado yachts will sail within half a mile of the beach, providing an awesome view for spectators.
It was the first time such a race had been run here and Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust chairman Stuart Pedersen said the view for people on Leisure Island would be spectacular.
The boats would come inside Rabbit Island on the way out and the way back.
The race was part of the club's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Tornado class catamaran, one of the fastest sailing classes in the world.
