More than $100,000 collected by Countdown staff has gone to children's hospital supplies, thanks to the Kids Hospital Appeal.
The $128,959.90 cheque was presented to the Bay of Plenty District Health Board yesterday at Countdown Bureta Park, where about 30 staff and district health board members gathered.
The donation would go towards new equipment for the maternity, children's and NICU wards.
Bay of Plenty Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal organiser Tony Chegwidden said he was "really honoured and proud" by the amount raised by the region.
Pete Chandler, health board chief operations officer, told the crowd "every contribution makes a difference".
"I'm speechless, thank you so much from all of us. It's not just our board, our executive, our CEO, it's our families, our patients, our communities across the Bay."
He said the notable growth across the region had created issues, which meant early intervention for children was important.
"We have a higher than normal percentage of children coming into hospital, and a lot of that is related to their living environment."
Countdown group manager for the Bay of Plenty Phil Guilford said the staff had all contributed to the fundraising with "weird and wonderful ideas".
The funds were raised through activities such as bake sales, mufti-days and a half marathon.
The Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal raised over $10.4 million since it first began in 2007.
