Temperatures have a good chance of being above normal in the Bay this summer but in other respects a fairly average summer is predicted.
Niwa's seasonal climate outlook for the Bay of Plenty for the December 2016 to February 2017 season showed temperatures were about equally likely to be near average, a 40 per cent chance, or above average, a 45 per cent chance.
Rainfall totals, soil moisture levels and river flows were most likely to be in the near normal range - a 45 per cent chance.
Niwa's outlooks indicate the likelihood of climate conditions being at, above, or below average for the season as a whole.
While today was sunny, Metservice was predicting the next few days would see more cloud and rain.
Today's temperatures were forecast to reach 21C during the day and call to 15C overnight.
Moving into tomorrow, temperatures would again hit 21C but there would be cloudy periods and a few showers throughout the day.
Thursday would again be 21C with rain easing to showers, and Friday would reach a high of 23C with cloudy periods and chance showers.
Saturday and Sunday were predicted to be warm and wet.
