Retired couple Jean and Peter Craven say living so close to Tauranga's CBD and all the central city amenities was a no-brainer.
The couple, who were originally from New Plymouth, moved to Tauranga seven years ago. They lived in a four-bedroom home in Fraser St for the first four years before deciding to downsize, and starting looking around.
Mrs Craven said she and her husband had always been central city dwellers and their last move to a two-bedroom apartment in Third Avenue three years ago meant they were also close to their son and grandchildren.
"When we bought this apartment three years ago no one wanted it, and we weren't sure if we did either at first. We thought maybe we would live in it for 12 months, and then possibly rent it out. But we just love it here and have no intention of moving."
"Who wouldn't want to live here?" Mr Craven said.
"We're within easily walking distance to The Strand, the waterfront, the shops, cafes and restaurants, the park and just about everything you would need is close by."
Mrs Craven said she and her husband were not surprised that their two bedroom apartment had increased in value by at least $80,000 since they bought it.
"This is a very desirable location."
