Taupo streets closed as armed police raid house

Tauranga's Armed Offender Squad were at the centre of a Taupo lockdown today.

Taupo police called on the help of the Tauranga AOS to help with an inquiry at a Tawa St address this morning.

Neighbouring streets were shut down to public during the raid.

Police were looking for a man on a probation matter.

As police were completing the enquiry at the address, the man arrived at the Taupo probations office to have the matter cleared.

Police this afternoon thanked people for their patience and wanted to reassure the community their safety was never at risk as this enquiry was carried out.

AOS were only used as a precaution for the safety of staff, police said.
