A residential Tauranga street has been closed off to traffic as members of the Armed Offender Squad respond to a call out in Merivale this afternoon.

The section of Hampton Terrace, off Fraser St, was closed to traffic after armed police responded to a domestic dispute about 3pm.

A police spokeswoman said the Armed Offender Squad as part of a search warrant, which was in relation to a domestic dispute in the area.

The spokeswoman said this was why the road was closed.

A reporter at the scene said the road had just been re-opened but police were still in the area.
