Mount Maunganui Hot Pools will be closed for three days this month as part of their refurbishment project.

The pools would be closed July 25, 26 and 27.

Work was being carried out on a rotational system, allowing the facility to stay open and ause minimal disruption to pool availability.

Mount Hot Pools venues manager Matthew Strange said the closure would enable workers to tackle painting jobs that can not be done while people are in the pools and potentially splashing.

The pool surrounds and all the facility walls would be painted. Pool water levels would need to be lowered, he said.

Work on the family changing room and pool side landscaping had been completed and the feedback has been fantastic, he said.

"People are excited about what is happening. Regulars are appreciating the fact we have stayed open to date."

Aspects of the refurbishment which would be finished by the time of the closure include beautification of the female changing room and landscaping, including the new sun deck with fountains for the kids.

The refurbishment, which was set to be finished by the end of August, would also target the male changing room, outdoor showers (re-tiling), paint and pool surrounds, and reception area.

Mr Strange said the project was implemented to modernise the Mount Hot Pools and better integrate the facility with the natural surroundings.

Bi-ennial maintenance work on the pool plant would also be conducted at the time of the closure, he said.
