As one odour issue at a Tauranga wastewater plant subsises, another is expected to rear its head with warnings of bad smells forecast for the central city.
The Tauranga City Council fixed the problem and this afternoon reported the odour issue was noticeably reduced today.
A council spokesman said that by the end of Saturday it will not be noticeable beyond the treatment plant boundary. The fault that caused the smell was fixed on Wednesday, but it takes some time for the biological treatment process to return to normal, he said.
However, the council was expecting 'some intermittent odour issues' over the next six weeks from the Chapel Street Wastewater Treatment Plant.
This is because the biofilter odour beds that normally serve to limit odours from the treatment plant are being replaced, the spokesman said.
''The odour beds are now around 25 years old. It will take until the end of May to complete the replacement works. Staff will be closely monitoring the works to keep any odours to a minimum as much as possible. We are aware of an odour issue today that affected at least one neighbouring business.''
