A young girl mugged at Bayfair while trying to buy a Christmas present has sparked public sympathy.
The girl was looking for a Christmas present for her mother at Bayfair Shopping Centre when she had her money bag snatched by a teenage girl about 5.15pm on Thursday.
Centre manager Steve Ellingford said the girl's mother had gone to another store nearby to allow her daughter to buy a surprise Christmas present.
"While such events are rare at Bayfair, this behaviour is extremely disappointing and it is heart-warming to see the generosity of shoppers who consoled the young girl and pursued the teenager," Mr Ellingford said.
"Christmas is an expensive time of year for families and we don't want this child to miss out on the pleasure of choosing a gift for her mother, so we have given her a Bayfair gift card."
