Human remains have been found in Katikati.
Police are heading to the Park Rd property where skeletal remains have been discovered during construction work of a building this morning.
Tauranga Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said an archaeologist found the remains, which are understood to be human and pre-historic.
"The bones
have been recovered. There has been exploration at the address, with some building work underway. The bones would be pre-European at least."
Mr Purcell said it was unlikely that foul play was involved and police would likely speak with local iwi in due process.
