Crash outside Tauranga Primary closes a lane

UPDATED 3.27pm: A car remains blocking one lane of south-bound traffic outside Tauranga Primary School this afternoon after it collided with another car.

Constable Ian Sadler said a woman and her infant child had been on the way to the hospital at the time of the crash.

"Ironically they were going to the hospital," he said.

The pair had been taken to hospital by ambulance after the crash just to "facilitate transport" but neither were injured in the crash, he said.

Her car remained blocking a lane as she had taken her car keys to the hospital with her, Mr Sadler said.

When traffic stopped for the traffic lights outside the school she had hit the car infront of her, he said.

No one was injured in the crash.

EARLIER 3.06pm: One lane of Cameron Rd is blocked after a car crash outside Tauranga Primary School this afternoon.

Emergency services are responding to the crash, which happened just after 3pm on the corner of Cameron Rd and 4th Ave.

A police northern communications spokesman said two cars were involved and it was possible oil has been spilled.

It was not yet known if anyone was hurt.
