A man who crashed a car into a tree was taken to Tauranga Hospital last night.

The 37-year-old was treated for a minor shoulder injury after the car he was driving crashed into a tree at the intersection of Oceanview Rd and Sutherland Ave about midnight.

St John ambulance was called and took the man to hospital.

There were no other occupants of the car and no other cars were involved.

Earlier in the day the Tauranga TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to Te Kaha medical center where a 76-year-old man required urgent hospital treatment.

Due to the remoteness of the small East Cape settlement, the helicopter was required to transport the patient to Whakatane Hospital about 1.30pm.
