UPDATED: A scrub fire on McMeeking Rd in Te Puke has been extinguished after fire fighters from Te Puke, Maketu and Greerton fought the blaze for an hour and 20 minutes.
Fire fighters were called to the out-of-control rubbish fire at 4.55pm which had spread to scrub and burnt around 1500sq m.
EARLIER at 5.40pm: An out-of-control rubbish fire has spread to scrub and burnt around 1500sq m on McMeeking Rd in Te Puke.
Fire fighters were called to the fire at 4.55pm and now three trucks from Te Puke, including their water tanker, plus trucks from Maketu and Greerton are fighting the blaze.
A fire service spokesman said they do not believe there have been any injuries and the fire is not believed to be endangering any properties.
EARLIER at 5.10pm: A caller to the Bay of Plenty Times said traffic was at a standstill in Te Puke and they had seen the fire brigade had been called out.
Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the build up was caused by road resealing and a 50km/h speed restriction being done between Manoeka Rd and the township.
It is understood the fire and the traffic are not connected.
