The BayTrust's Dillon Scholarship is now open for applications.

BayTrust funds and operates the Dillon Scholarship which provides financial assistance to people with significant disabilities to undertake tertiary study.

The scholarship recognises the particular efforts that people with significant disabilities have to make to obtain tertiary education and the extra financial costs that they may incur.

The scholarship is for up to $4000 a year for up to four years. Last year the trust approved a total of $116,000 in Dillon Scholarships to 64 students.

Students undertake a variety of courses such as a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Counselling, and Diploma in Computer Studies and National Certificate in Motor Industry.

BayTrust encourages students to go to its website www.baytrust.org.nz, for further information and to download the application form; or to ring the staff at the office on 07 578 6546 or 0800 654 546 to help with any queries.

Applications must be received by December 31, 2012 for those planning to pursue tertiary study in 2013. The time required to process applications means that the closing date cannot be extended
