A woman caught drink driving for the seventh time had a six-year-old child in the car when she was pulled over.

Sharon Mamairoa Signall will be wearing a home detention ankle bracelet for six months after being sentenced in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

The probation report said Signall had acknowledged she was an alcoholic and enrolled in a Hanmer Clinic early recovery programme.

She was also attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Signall was the primary caregiver for her child and elderly father and said she had not touched alcohol for four months.

Judge Christopher Harding noted there was a six-year-old child in the car when Signall was pulled over.

He sentenced her to 15 hours' community work and disqualified her from driving for two years.
